The summer days are now numbered before Parents take a BIG sigh of relief and scoot the kids out the door - onto the bus and life returns to somewhat normal- whatever “normal” is!
As a photographer, work load changes too - I do not get to pick out new clothes, new books pencils , erasers or cool lunch cans - instead I get myself psyched up to photograph 1000 plus school students from all age levels, and that means a lot of smiles coming at me as I prepare to take my place behind the safety of my camera for another season of school portraits.
I see it all - smiles, missing front teeth , frowns , pimples and loads of attitude as students slip somehow before my very eyes from being cute kids to teenagers and then into grads walking across that stage with well earned diploma in hand.
I have been working as a school photographer for over 15 years now and all at the same schools I started with. This has allowed me to see kindergarten children pass before my camera and then the same students are all of a sudden in a grad gown and leaving their school years behind. It is an honour to be a part of this and to be given the final role as their grad photographer where they actually all want to smile and they finally take the photo session seriously....... my hard work has finally paid off!
A reminder to all parents .... School picture day is just about upon us so mark the date on the agenda and remember to spit & shine the youngsters into picture perfection for the annual school photo session. I do take my time to achieve the best expression I can pull out of each child before my camera, I try to put them at ease and I try to get two poses worthy of Mom’s & Dad’s Approval ... all this in 6o seconds or less! So HELP me all you parents out there ... Remind your children when picture day is , have them wear what you pick out for them and bribe them with some incentive to smile and together, we will create a picture perfect memory of your child's 2010 school year!
